You can start by getting a fix on what kind of design or aesthetic you want – contemporary or traditional, or something in between? You can then explore in the chosen category for the kind of colours and patterns that appeal to you, or complement your interiors. A lot will depend on what kind of vibe you want to achieve. It all depends on whether you want a subdued look that merges with your décor, or a vibrant atmosphere, or want to make a statement with the carpet.
You can play with warm, thick and cosy textures for a luxurious feeling. Deep colours and patterns add a bold look. Toning down patterns using solids or neutral colours or rugs in light shades with subtle motifs. Geometric patterns are a great trend this season. However, if you want a less busy look, you can go for subtle or less intricate patterns. Using warm and earthy colour tones too helps if you prefer less textures.
When it comes to the ideal material for a carpet, pure wool is the best, as it is naturally luxurious, durable and resilient. It has great insulation properties, which means, it keeps your home warm in winter, and cool in summer. It is also easy to clean and maintain. And of course, it is a green material.
Hand-knotted woollen carpets are considered superior as each knot is individually tied by hand and they are highly durable. You can usually tell the quality of the carpet by its backing. A hand-tufted Carpet has a plain canvas backing, whereas you can determine the quality of a hand-knotted carpet by the number of knots per square inch and how tightly packed they are. The tighter and thicker they are, the carpet quality will be better. It also means they are less prone to crushing. On the contrary, if you can see the backing easily, it means it is less densely packed, hence low in quality.
